A group of young adults, Chris (Jesse McCartney), his girlfriend Natalie (Olivia Taylor Dudley), and their mutual friend Amanda (Devin Kelley), are traveling across Europe. They stop in Kiev, Ukraine, to visit Chris's brother, Paul (Jonathan Sadowski), before heading on to Moscow where Chris intends to propose to Natalie.
After a night on the town, Paul suggests that they go on an "extreme tour" of the abandoned town of Prypiat which sits in the shadow of Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, site of the infamous disaster, since the city is only 100 km from Kiev. They are joined by a backpacking couple, Norwegian Zoe (Ingrid Bolso Berdal) and Australian Michael (Nathan Phillips). The group arrives at the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone checkpoint, in which they are banned by the Ukrainian military but their tour guide, Yuri (Dimitri Diatchenko), takes them in through an unmanned, forested checkpoint, entering the Zone.
On the way they stop at a river where they discover a large, mutated fish with large teeth dead at the side of the river. As the group returns to the van, a number of similar fish are seen below the murky water attacking a piece of beef jerky Yuri threw earlier on. They spend a few hours exploring the abandoned city, which was home to Chernobyl workers and their families before they were forced to evacuate overnight. When Yuri takes them into an apartment building, he hears a noise. When he slowly goes to investigate, a bear comes out from an adjacent room and runs away. Frightened, the group leaves the building. Yuri comments on the incident, telling the group he has been coming to Chernobyl for five years and has always seen a dog or wolves but never a bear.
As the group prepares to leave, Yuri finds the wires in his van have been chewed through and tries to radio for help to no avail. As night falls, the group begins arguing and affixing blame. Noises are heard outside and Yuri goes out with a flashlight and a gun, accompanied by Chris. Shots are heard and Paul runs out to investigate, only to return with Chris whose leg has been severely mauled, seemingly by dogs who attack the van.
The next morning, Paul, Michael, and Amanda go out looking for Yuri who, according to Chris, was taken by "them". They follow a trail of blood to find Yuri's mutilated body in an underground complex. They take his gun and Geiger counter and barely escape a group of mutant creatures. They return to the van, planning to hike to the nearest checkpoint but Chris cannot move his leg. Chris and Natalie stay behind while the others go to get help.
The group comes across abandoned vehicles in a parking lot and find a bus with bullet holes exiting from inside it. In the bus they find broken guns, a bloody guard uniform, and a flash light. Michael finds replacement wires for the van, so they head back toward their vehicle. After being chased by dogs, they reach the van by nightfall and find it ripped apart and flipped over. Natalie's camera video reveals she and Chris were taken by the mutants.
They go in search of the two but end up being chased by more mutants. During their escape they find a traumatized Natalie and rescue her. When the group are out in the open, they begin to work out where another checkpoint nearby is by using a map Michael obtained during their previous escape. The group is distracted by a little girl in the distance. As they try to communicate with her Natalie is once again taken by the mutants. Paul, Michael, Amanda, and Zoe attempt to find her, but in the process are swarmed by a horde of mutants. They run to a fallout shelter, but Michael is captured. The three continue on, finding Chris' engagement ring for Natalie but no sign of Chris himself. They are again attacked by mutants and, as they begin to climb a ladder to the way out, a congregation of mutants pull Zoe back down, forcing Amanda and Paul to leave her as they escape.
Paul and Amanda continue on through the fallout shelter which comes out in Chernobyl power plant itself. As they navigate the reactor, they find Natalie dead. They continue on, only to also become poisoned with radiation as their skin begins to blister. They exit the reactor and are confronted by Ukrainian military personnel. Blinded from radiation poisoning, Paul is shot dead when he approaches the soldiers.
Amanda passes out and awakens on a gurney where several doctors, clad in protective hazmat suits, inform her that she is in a hospital. The doctors talk amongst themselves and reveal that the "creatures" were escaped patients that have been recaptured and, since the other Americans are dead, they decide Amanda, having seen the escapees, must not be allowed to leave. She is later thrown into a dark isolated room. Amanda is immediately alerted as she begins to hear noises. She calls out and a group of mutants attack her. Fade to black.
The film follows a group of six young tourists who, looking to go off the
beaten path, hire an "extreme tour" guide. Ignoring warnings, he takes them into
the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear
reactor, but a deserted town since the disaster 26 years ago. After a brief
exploration of the abandoned city, however, the group soon finds themselves
stranded, only to discover that they are being hunted by strange supernatural
beings that now live in the city.
Sinister is a 2012 supernaturalhorror film directed by Scott Derrickson and written by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill. It follows true-crime writer Ellison (Ethan Hawke) as he discovers a box of home movies that put his family in danger. The film employs "found footage" along with traditional cinematography.[1] Premiered at the SXSW festival, Sinister is scheduled to release in the United States on October 12, 2012.
Plot
The film opens on Super 8 footage where a family of four are standing under a tree with bags over their heads and nooses around their necks. The family is lifted by their necks and strangled until they are dead.
Months later, true-crime novelist Ellison Osborne (Ethan Hawke) moves into the same house as the murdered family with his wife, Tracy (Juliet Rylance), and their two children Ashley (Clare Foley) and Trevor (Michael Hall D'Addario). Ellison uses the murders as the basis for his new book. Supposedly, there were five members in the family, and one of the children went missing after the murders.
Ellison finds a box in the attic, which contains a projector and several reels of Super 8 footage that are each labeled as if innocent home movies. He watches the films, all depicting families murdered in various ways, including having their throats slit in bed (Sleepy Time), an arson (BBQ), being drowned in their pool (Pool Party), and the hanging that opened the movie (Hanging Out). The drowning one proves especially disturbing for him, as he sees a dark figure with a demonic face. Upon seeing this figure, strange things begin happening around the house. Ellison continues to observe the films, and discovers strange things in them, such as a strange symbol painted near the murders, and the demonic figure, which begins to show up in every film. He calls a deputy (James Ransone) to help him find the location of these murders.
After going through the images, the deputy refers him to a religion/cult college professor, Jonas (Vincent D'Onofrio), to decipher the symbol in the films. Jonas tells Ellison that the symbol is that of a Pagan deity named Bagul, who was known as an eater of children's souls. One night, Ellison hears the film projector running and goes up to the attic. He finds five children (all of whom were the missing from each family after they were murdered) watching one of the films. When Bagul suddenly appears in front of him, Ellison falls from the attic. Having had enough, he burns the projector and the film and moves out with his family. Upon returning to their old house, he goes into the attic and finds the box containing the projector and film, completely unharmed. However, there is a new item inside: an envelope with "extended endings." Within that, Ellison finds that after each murder took place, the missing child would come onscreen, revealing them to be the murderers, and then disappear.
Professor Jonas tells Ellison that Bagul would supposedly appear in images, which acted as portals between his realm and the mortal realm. The deputy explains to Ellison that he discovered a chain in the murders. Each of the families that were murdered lived in a house where a murder took place before they moved to another house where the next murder would happen and so on. After learning that Ellison and his family moved, the deputy tells him that he's only continuing the chain by moving to a different house. Ellison suddenly finds glowing green liquid inside his coffee, along with a note from his daughter, and loses consciousness.
Upon waking, he finds himself, his wife and son bound and gagged. Ashley walks in, carrying an axe and a Super 8 camera. She then documents the grisly murders of her father, mother, and brother, and paints the walls in their blood, with several childish images such as unicorns, cats and dogs . She then goes to the projector and plays the film she just took, revealing the children in the hallway. Upon Bagul's appearance, the children run away. Bagul picks up Ashley and walks into the film with her.
The final shot shows the box of film in the attic of the Osborne house, this time with a new canister that reads "House painting '12".
Scott Derrickson of "The Day The Earth Stood Still" directs this horror
thriller starring "Daybreakers" star Ethan Hawke in this lead. When true-crime
novelist Ellison (Hawke) finds an footage about how and why a family was
murdered in his new home for his book, his discoveries sets his entire family in
the path of a supernatural entity.

A mother and daughter move to a new town and find themselves living next door to a house where a young girl murdered her parents. When the daughter befriends the surviving son, she learns the story is far from over.
House at the End of the Street is a 2012 American horror-thriller film directed by Mark Tonderai and starring Jennifer Lawrence, Max Thieriot, Gil Bellows and Elisabeth Shue.[2] While visiting Elissa’s battle of the bands
at the local high school, several high school students vandalize Ryan’s
car and then attack him. While defending himself, he breaks the ankle
of one of the students (Nolan Gerard Funk)
and then runs home. The remaining students announce they're going to
burn his house down. Elissa drives Ryan's broken car home and stops the
fire, but while inside finds Ryan's secret room. Opening the door, she
is attacked by Carrie-Ann right as Ryan arrives home to stop the attack.
At this moment, it is revealed to the viewer that the current
Carrie-Ann is actually the Penn State student from the diner, being held
captive and made to look like Carrie-Ann. In order to keep Carrie-Ann secret, he knocks Elissa out and ties her
to a chair in the secret room. He reveals that Carrie-Ann actually died
during the swinging accident but that he needed Carrie-Ann in his life.
He knocks out the Penn State student and while removing her body from
the room says he is going to make Elissa his new Carrie-Ann so he can
have them both in his life. It becomes apparent to the viewer by this
point that the first "Carrie-Ann" had never attacked Elissa but rather
was another victim attempting to escape from Ryan. Weaver arrives at the
house after a request from Sarah. Ryan says Elissa isn't there, but
Weaver hears her phone ring inside. In a scuffle with Ryan inside the
dark house, Weaver is stabbed to death in the laundry room after he
drops his gun and malfunctioning flash light. During this time, Elissa
escapes the secret room but is chloroformed by Ryan and thrown into the
trunk of his car. When she awakes, she finds "Carrie-Ann" in the trunk
and escapes his car. Sarah arrives at the house and hears Elissa's
screams, but she is stabbed by Ryan and thrown in the laundry room. In a
struggle in the dark laundry room, Ryan is shot several times by Elissa
using the dropped objects by Weaver, and Ryan is then knocked out by
Sarah. On a later date, as Elissa and Sarah move out of their rented house,
Elissa stares at a tree where Ryan once told her he learned the lesson
that people hold multiple layers of secrets. In the final scene, Ryan is
shown in a mental hospital. His inner thoughts reveal that after
Carrie-Ann died his parents made him dress and act like Carrie-Ann, and
when he would refuse they would abuse and hit him.
